  1. Introducing our Baby Friendly range!

We have been very busy over the last few months designing and creating our two new Maxis!

In the early days we created a special PlayBag Baby which had all sorts of different colours and textures to interest baby and encourage “tummy time”. We loved this design, but also realised it’s limitations – after the age of around 18 months, chances are it will no longer fulfil their needs!

Our other Maxi’s are designed more around the needs of children from the age of 2 when they are really starting to interact with their environment and use their imagination to create scenarios. A lot of these designs have one of their features being the lovely long soft “rainbow grass”, which we absolutely love, but are not suitable for children under 18 months.

    Combining ideas

Anyway, when we were coming up with our new designs, we decided to combine the two ideas, to make a “baby friendly” PlayBag which would be suitable from birth, yet also capture their imagination as they grow.

    Enchanted Garden

We have made it so that the 3D features are completely soft yet sturdy, so if baby rolls over them, they simply spring back into shape. We have created a super-sized flower in our Enchanted Garden which has some crinkly petals which we adore. Our Farm PlayBag also has a ridged “ploughed field” to add some texture, as well as a grassy hill in the green field.

     PlayBag Farm

In our shop from 1st May!

We will be launching these two designs officially at the Baby Show in Milton Keynes on 29th April, but if you are a subscriber to our newsletter, they are available to purchase at a special subscriber only rate! Look out for your newsletter landing in your inbox on the 1st April or sign up via our website or Facebook.

We love these two new designs and think that they offer a lot of scope for imaginative play, and would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

  2. We are 2

Wow! Can’t believe we are another year older already. Today our blog is focussing on what has happened in this last (ridiculously fast) twelve months!

    Our achievements

It feels like we have come such a long way this year, learning so many lessons – some the hard way! We have met some amazing people along the way, who have all had an impact on The PlayBags journey on one way or another.

Since last march we have :

    • Been shortlisted in the most innovative toys for toddlers in the Mumii Best Baby and Toddler Gear Awards.
    • A finalist in the Networking Mummies Business Recognition Awards for best new business.
    • Won the Queen Of Toy Bags award on Twitter
    • Partnered with Hewson and Nash and given them exclusivity on the brand-new Stepping Stones PlayBag Mini.

    Second year achievements

    Moving on

We are also in the process of moving into dedicated premises which is an incredibly exciting move for us! We will still be in the same area, so the only thing that is changing is our address and we will let you know when this has all happened, but do keep your eye on our social media pages to see where we are up to on this!

    The future

So what does the future hold for us? Well, we have lots of events planned from Baby and Toddler shows and visits to various parent and child groups to a two-day Christmas Sparkle event. See our events page for more details of our upcoming events.

We are also in negotiations to form a new and exciting partnership which will hopefully allow our PlayBags to reach a wider market. More on this on a later blog!

We have two new PlayBag Maxi’s in the pipeline: The Enchanted Garden which is currently in its play testing phase and the Farm, which is in its design phase. These are also going to be baby-friendly to ensure that you can get the most out of your PlayBag.new designs

We are also looking to create our own set of toys and accessories, some of which may be made into kits and patterns for you to make at home.

If you have a group and would like us to come and show you our PlayBag and demonstrate them, please do get in touch.

Please leave us a comment if you have any suggestions of toys or PlayBags that you would like us to create for our shop.

  3. design revision 2017

We are always looking for ways to improve our PlayBags, without compromising the basic design. So, when my chief play tester mentioned that it would be much better to get rid of the border from the PlayBag Maxi so that the play area went right to the edge – we had to listen!

    Interlinking designs

When we first started making the PlayBags, we created them so that they could interlink with each other in lots of different ways. This idea we mostly kept in our heads!!

With the new edging, it makes it much easier to interlink them, so if you are lucky enough to have more than one PlayBag, or if your friends also have one, you can join them together, by either the river or road, to expand your adventures and create even more fun! We will be giving you some more ideas in a later blog.

    Spring Clearance

All our new creations will have this new edging, so we are selling off the remaining stock with the old edging – look out for our Spring Clearance Sale – on for two weeks only – ends Sunday 9th April.

In the meantime, please leave us a comment if you have any improvements we could make to our design.

  4. This is possibly one of the questions I am asked most! And the short answer is no!

To be used with a variety of toys

When I first created The PlayBag, I wanted it to be used in a variety of ways with whichever toys the child was into at the time. So for example if you had The Shire PlayBag – one day it could be a backdrop fro retelling the Gruffalo story, the next day it could be a playground for Playmobil toys or a lego scene. My initial thoughts were that to sell them with the toys was beign too prescriptive.

Instagram Four ways with the Shire V2 PlayBag

I also wanted the PlayBag to be gender neutral. I love observing children at play, especially how the genders often play with the same sort of toys, but in completely different ways. What may be Fairy Island to one child may be Dinosaur Planet to another - gender is not important!

    Creating gift sets

Despite my initial plan, so many people asked about complete packages, or suitable toys for the PlayBag, so last year I decided to add a select number of toys to sell alongside my PlayBag. The wooden train accessory sets from Viga being one of them. We love traditional toys, and these are a perfect size for the roads. They are also compatible with Brio and Bigjigs toys so I’m told!

Although not a big fan generally of the more commercialised, plastic toys, we did fall in love with Arlo and friends from The Good Dinosaur, so have a small selection of these toys in our shop, which are a lovely addition to the PlayBag Mini.

    PlayBag toys coming soon…..

We do have plans to create our own toys and accessories to sell alongside the PlayBags, so do sign up to our newsletter to be kept informed of the latest developments on this exciting new venture.

In the meantime, do let us know if there is anything that you woudl like to see in our PlayBag Shop!

    Bye for now!
