Keeping Cool this Summer

One day of heat and we have all gone into meltdown! Daughter’s school even had to close for the day which just goes to show that we are not prepared for any extremes of weather here in Old Blighty!

Just in case this heatwave decides to continue this week we decided to share with you some of our favourite things for keeping cool.

Facial spritz: nearly as good as having a bucket of water thrown at you! To make your own simply make a brew of green tea, allow to cool and pour into a spray bottle. Simple! Green tea has many benefits in natural cosmetics due to its calms the skin and has apparently got antiaging benefits! Bonus!!

Berry Blast smoothie. I always keep stacks of frozen berries in the freezer. What could be simpler and more refreshing that whizzing up a handful of berries with some freshly squeezed orange juice?

Frozen chocolate mousse. This little gem is sugar free, gluten free, dairy free and full of flavour! It packs a neat little punch for its 100 calorie frame and hits that chocolate craving right when it’s needed. Super simple to make. Simply whisk up coconut cream with one tablespoon of raw cocoa powder a dash of vanilla essence and a tablespoonful of rice malt syrup and freeze. I like to make these up in plastic shot glasses. Makes 8 although they don’t last long our household.

Aloe Vera. As a redhead, I know all too well the pain of sunburn! Trust me; I can get burnt on an overcast day! As you know, I’m a big fan of natural remedies and cosmetics and I try to always have an aloe vera plant on stand by. I’m not particularly green fingered, but they are fairly resilient. If you don’t have one there are plenty aloe vera gels on the market, but do try and get the ones that are pure. They are well known for being healing and soothing for burns.

Enjoy the sun while it lasts!
